New Artistic & General Director
The renowned Norwegian conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen takes over from Mary Miller as the new Artistic and General Director of Bergen National Opera in 2021.
A bullseye for BNO!
- An impressive selection of candidates announced their interest in becoming Mary Miller’s successor, and after an extensive recruitment process, Eivind Gullberg Jensen was the obvious choice, says chairman of Bergen National Opera, Harald Victor Hove:
- Eivind Gullberg Jensen is a bullseye for BNO. He is a sought-after conductor internationally, equally familiar with both the modern and classical repertoire. Throughout his career, he has taken regular assignments at leading opera companies worldwide. In addition to this solid artistic foundation, he will, as a resident of Bergen, be able to build on the strong position that BNO has won both nationally and internationally.
There is a need for a new operahouse in Bergen, says Gullberg Jensen
- It is a great pleasure for me to announce that from 2021 I will be able to contribute to the opera scene in my home town of Bergen. Opera is in many ways the ultimate art form, where music, theater, dance and visual art culminates in something even greater. I look forward to continuing the great work that has been laid down by BNO & Mary Miller in recent years. In addition to leading BNO artistically, one of my most important tasks will be to participate in the process of convincing politicians, nationally and regionally, to support the building of a new opera house in Western Norway. This is an assignment, that with the greatest pleasure, I will take on immediately.
Bergen National Opera
Bergen National Opera is Norway's largest opera outside Oslo. BNO’s opera productions and concerts in the Grieg hall are produced in collaboration with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
- We are all pleased with the fantastic progress that the opera company has made under Mary Miller's 10-year leadership. It is a strength for both BNO and Eivind Gullberg Jensen, that Mary Miller will be with the company until 31.12.2020. It gives us the time and opportunity to ensure a good and productive handover between these two very competent leaders, says chairman Harald Victor Hove.
