Ellena Armelius
PianistPianist Ellena Armelius is our repetiteur in the main opera production in Grieghallen, and also often plays at our concerts in other venues. She also often plays piano in Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Born in the UK Ellena Armelius (b. Hale) studied piano at the Yehudi Menuhin School then at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in solo piano and a Masters in piano accompaniment. After graduating Ellena was awarded a Junior Fellowship at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Past engagements in the UK have included performances at the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Cadogan Hall, Cheltenham Music Festival and Aldeburgh Music Festival. Hale has also participated in masterclasses with Claude Frank, Jiri Hlinka, and Murray Perahia and accompanied in classes for Barbara Bonney, Renaud Capuçon and Maxim Vengerov.
Ellena Armelius is now living in Bergen, and has often assignments at Bergen National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. She joined the tour with the orchestra and conductor Edward Gardner to Germany and Belgium February 2023.
Autumn 2020 she and Stephen Higgins alone replaced the whole of the symphony orchestra in the Covid-version of Beethoven's oratorio Christus am Ölberge (Christ on the Mount of Olives).
