Two pairs of great international singers present this double bill of operas: Peter Eötvö's new opera Senza Sangue & Bluebeard's Castle.

Peter Eötvös ́s new opera Senza Sangue accounts the final pages of an eloquent short story by Alessandro Barrico. During the Spanish Civil War, a child is concealed below the floor and escapes murder, but loses her beloved father. The youngest attacker, only a boy himself, catches sight of her, but leaves her undiscovered. In old age, the woman wants to find him, and to find repose.

Bartók ́s masterpiece Bluebeard's Castle unfolds a psychodrama where the sheer power of the music unfolds emotions of terrifying depth. Judith has married Bluebeard and on entering his castle compels him to open the seven doors behind which lurk untold mystery.

Two pairs of great international singers present this double bill of operas, directed by young Danish talent, Eva-Maria Melbye: the scenarios may be small scale in terms of staging, but their impact will be profound.

Due to a cancellation by Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the dates in Bergen are cancelled. However, you can still see the double bill in Gotenburg on 22nd and 23rd April, as the cooperation between Göteborgs Symfoniker and Bergen National Opera continues.
