Frank Kjosås

The Norwegian actor Frank Kjosås is Åsleik in the world premiere of the opera Asle and Alida here i Bergen spring 2025

- I never say yes to something I don't have positive expectations for - and this was like that: It's Jon Fosse. It is Western Norway. It is Bergen National Opera. Then my view is: What's not to like? (Frank Kjosås in interview when it was known that he was casted in the role as Åsleik.)

The actor and singer Frank Kjosås is from Øystese in Hardanger in Western Norway. He studied at Bårdar Dance Institute and The Norwegian National Academy of Theatre (Teaterhøgskolen), both in Oslo.

He has has performed several musical roles at the renowned theatre Det Norske Teatret in Oslo, like Woof in Hair, the title role in Peter Pan as well as Sweeney Todd, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, the leading role Jakoba in Songfuglen (The Song Bird) and Kevin Price in The Book of Mormon. He has also played Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf and Jesus in Bibelen (The Bible).

Kjosås has also played Hamlet at Hålogaland Teater in Tromsø, and Dovregubben (The Mountain King) at the outdoor production of Ibsen's drama Peer Gynt at Gålå in the Gudbrandsdal valley. In 2018 he had his debut as stage director at Det Norske Teatret, with L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

In 2013 Kjosås was the young boxer Fred in the TV-series Halvbroren (The Half Brother) in NRK – The Norwegian Broadcasting, for which he he received the Norwegian TV award Gullruten, as Best male actor. Kjosås has also acted in several other films and TV series, among them the role as Jan Erik Hartmann in the TV series Exit.

Spring and autumn 2024 he played Ivar Aasen in Spynorsk. The Musical at Det Norske Teatret.

In 2026 he will be one of the actors in the Netflix series about the detective Harry Hole.
