Silya Nymoen

Silya Nymoen visits Bergen National Opera for the first time, as Nielsen in The Merry Widow spring 2022.

The Norwegian artist Silya Nymoen was singing and playing classical piano by age 8. She majored in contemporary jazz dance at The Oslo National Academy of Art. While she performed in musical theater shows like Cabaret, Chicago, and West Side Story, she also was the lead singer of the Norwegian hip hop group Multicyde 1998-2002.

After 8 years in New York City she won the TV singing competition on Norwegian Broadcasting called Stjernekamp and moved back to Norway. She has among others performed in the musical Sweeney Todd at Det Norske Teatret in Oslo, been a TV-presenter for the national finale of Eurovision Song Contest (Melodi Grand Prix), collaborated with The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and also competed as a conductor together with other Norwegian celebrities in the TV-show Maestro on NRK1. She is often touring with her band Silya & The Sailors.
