Mai Goto

The award winning pianist Mai Goto invites audience all over the world to the digital concert on the 21st of April, together with mezzo soprano Daniela Iancu Johannessen.

The pianist Mai Goto graduated from Osaka University of Music in her home country Japan, and continued her studies at the Liszt Academy in Budapest. 2012 she finished her Master's degree at the Grieg Academy in Bergen. She has received several prizes in piano competitions in Japan, and in 2009 she also was awarded 1st prize in "The 24th International Music Competition Rovero d'Oro" in Italy.


Mai Goto is currently living in Bergen, where she has an active performing career with solo concerts, chamber music and as an accompanist. Since 2016 she has contributed as musician as well as composer in theatre productions together with the actress Karin Stautland. She also was one of the initiators behind "Issun Boshi - a Japanese fairytale" which was performed in Reykjavik 2019. At Siljustøl, the home of the composer Harald Sæverud, she has regularly given solo concerts too.

She has also attended the concert series “Antikk musikk” together with recorder player Anette Bjørnenak, and “Grieg in Bergen” with violinist Michael Süssmann and singer Sunniva Lien Olsen – as well as arena:klassisk's “Show-case” in Oslo. For the contemporary music festival Borealis she played in Matteo Fargion's piece " We have to dress gorgeously", which was performed in Bergen, Oslo and France.

Summer 2020 Mai Goto will be festival artist at Reykjavík Fringe on Iceland.
