Gidon Saks

Gidon Saks was born in Israel and brought up in South Africa. He trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and at the University of Toronto, and later received a full scholarship to the Zurich Opera Studio. Recent highlights include Claggart/Billy Budd at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bottom/A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Beijing Music Festival, and the four villains/Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Royal Danish Opera. Gidon Saks appears on several recordings, and works regularly with celebrated conductors including Pappano, Gergiev, Runnicles, Marriner and Minkowski. Candide marks his second visit to Bergen National Opera.
