Erin Wall (1975 - 2020)

– Erin Wall was a vocally glorious Ellen Orford, infusing her arias and the Act 2 quartet with Straussian radiance. (The Telegraph in Edinburgh 2017)

Bergen National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra are shocked to hear of Erin Wall’s death - a great artist and a wonderful colleague. How lucky we are, those who experienced her gifts, her generosity and humanity. She added her noble and distinctive voice to our performances and recording of Peter Grimes. Here in Norway we are devastated and send love and condolences to her family. (Bergen, October 12th 2020)

Canadian soprano Erin Wall found herself in great demand by leading conductors for engagements on both opera and concert stages worldwide. Some of the highlights included Desdemona in Vancouver, Donna Anna at San Francisco Opera, Arabella and Chrysothemis at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto and Elettra/Idomeneo at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Equally busy on the concert platform with Mahler’s 8 Symphony both at Wiener Konzerthaus with Franz Welser-Möst and Berlin Konzerthaus with Christoph Eschenbach, Beethoven’s Symphony with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vier letzte Lieder with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Edward Gardner. Erin Wall appears on a string of CDs and DVDs in major works conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, Pierre Boulez and Mariss Jansons, to mention a few.

Erin Wall performed as Ellen Orford in our Peter Grimes autumn 2019, which she also did in Edinburgh 2017. She is also singing on the recording on Chandos.

October 2020 Erin Wall died of cancer, and we remember her with deep gratitude.
