Barnaby Rea
Autumn 2019 Barnaby Rea revisited Bergen as Hobson in Peter Grimes.
The British bass Barnaby Rea graduated from the Guildhall School of Music before entering the National Opera Studio in London. In recent seasons he has performed a series of roles at the English National Opera, notably Don Basilio in the Barber of Seville, Colline in La Bohème and Lodovico in Otello. At the Scottish Opera he sang Masetto in Don Giovanni in 2013, and Bonzo in Madame Butterfly at Opera Holland Park the same year.
Since 2016 he is singing at Oper Frankfurt in a broad array of operas, and spring 2020 he is among others Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto – and Colonel Kottwitz in the new production of Der Prinz von Homburg by Hans Werner Henze. Hobson in Peter Grimes 2017 was his Scandinavian debut, and autumn 2019 Barnaby was back in this role in Bergen, as well as Oslo and London.
