Sofia Adrian Jupither
The award-winning Sofia Adrian Jupither is stage director for the world premiere of the opera Asle and Alida here in Bergen spring 2025
The Swedish stage director Sofia Adrian Jupither has a long and close relationship to the texts by Jon Fosse, after her debut when she was only 26, staging his play Besøk (Visits) at Helsingsborg City Theatre in her home country.
Few years later (2005) she was the stage director for the world premiere of his play Svevn (Sleep) at The National Theatre in Oslo. The following year she received the Norwegian theatre award Heddaprisen for this version in the category Best direction.
She has also staged several operas, like Salome (2014 and revivals) at The Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, Die tote Stadt (The Dead City) by Korngold at Wermland Opera, Rigoletto by Verdi (2018/19 and revivals) at The Royal Swedish Opera, and Tosca at Malmö Opera 2019/20. At the Finnish National Opera she directed Turandot by Puccini spring 2023.
Spring 2024 Jupither's version of the large love story Tristan og Isolde by Richard Wagner premiered at The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. Asle and Alida will also be performed in Copenhagen after its world premiere here in Bergen this spring (2025).
In February this year (2025) her version of Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss premiered at Nederlandse Reisopera.
