Rodula Gaitanou
The Greek director Rodula Gaitanou has directed Ariadne auf Naxos for GöteborgsOperan, as well as La traviata and other operas for Holland Park in London.
Rodula Gaitanou trained as a violinist at the Mousikoi Orizontes Conservatory in Athens, studied Musicology at La Sorbonne University in Paris, and Opera Staging at Paris 8 - Saint Denis University. She is also a former Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist.
Productions include Joseph Haydn's L'isola disabitata at the Royal Opera House i London, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor for Opera Hedeland in Denmark, Rossini's Cenerentola at Teatro Lirico di Trieste and Guillaume Tell for Victorian Opera in Melbourne. Other highlights are Verdi's La traviata, Un ballo in maschera and Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades for Opera Holland Park, Puccini's Tosca in Xi'an Concert Hall in China, and Ariadne aux Naxos by Richard Strauss at GöteborgsOperan in Sweden.
She was nominated in the category Best Director at the International Opera Awards 2019, and autumn 2019 she directed Massenet's Don Quichotte for Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland. Her new version of Un ballo in maschera by Verdi was a part of the season 2019/20 at Oldenburgisches Staatsteater in Germany.
June 2021 Rodula Gaitanou's version of La traviata from 2018 will be revived at Opera Holland Park in London.
