Martin Eidsgaard Hatlo
Norwegian bass-baritone Martin Eidsgaard Hatlo plays the much feared newspaper editor Ken Skade in The Merry Widow 2.0 spring 2022 here in Bergen.
Norwegian bass-baritone Martin Eidsgaard Hatlo from Larvik studied at Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, and at the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.
He has sung roles like Donald in Britten's Billy Budd, Don Alfonso in Mozart's Così fan tutte, the Mother in Weill's Sieben Todsünden and Bartolo in Rossini's Barber of Seville.
Season 2017/18 he was a member of the young artist program at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet in Oslo, where he among others sung in Puccini's Tosca and Irgens-Jensen's oratorio Heimferd (Homecoming) – and was Masetto in Richard Jones’ production of Don Giovanni.
In 2015 he was awarded 2nd prize in Copenhagen International Lied Duo Competition together with the pianist Kristoffer Hyldig. Martin Eidsgaard Hatlo is still an engaged artist of Lieder and the Scandinavian repertoire of romances, and regularly performs works like Schubert's Winterreise and Grieg's songs with lyrics by the Norwegian poet Aasmund Olavsson Vinje.
Season 21/22 he will, in addition to be Ken Skade in our version of The Merry Widow 2.0, also have one of the main roles in Karólína Eiríksdóttir's new opera BLY at Piteå Kammaropera in Sweden. He will also sing the Sacristan in Puccini's Tosca at the Opera in Kristiansund (February 2022) before he revisits The Norwegian Opera & Ballet in Oslo autumn 2022.
