Marco Spotti
He is famed for his roles as Basilio, the Grand Inquistor and Mefistofele.
The bass Marco Spotti from Parma studied in his hometown at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito. Right after his master degree, he gave his professional stage debut in Un ballo in maschera at Teatro Regio in Parma.
Further engagements followed immediately and brought him to prestigious houses like the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Two of his signature roles are as the Grand Inquisitor in Verdi’s Don Carlo, and Basilio in Rossini’s lI barbiere il Seviglia. 2018 he debuted as Pope Clement VII in Benvenuto Cellini by Berlioz at Opéra National de Paris, and also made his debut in Tokyo in the title role as Mefistofele by Boito.
Marco Spotti visited Bergen National Opera for the first time as Ramfis in Aida (2014). Autumn 2020 he returned, now Banco in Verdi's Macbeth, but this production was due to the Covid-19-situation cancelled short time before the premiere.
