Malin Byström
She has sung title roles like Salome, Jenůfa og Tosca. Now soprano Malin Byström visits Bergen for her role debut as Rusalka.
Swedish soprano Malin Byström has studied at Operahögskolan in Stockholm, and in 2018 she received the award Female Singer under International Opera Awards.
Byström has sung several large roles at acclaimed opera houses, among them Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House in London, as well as in Salzburg and at The Metropolitan in New York, Puccini’s Tosca at Oper Frankfurt (2018-19). In 2017 she had her role debut as Salome by Richard Strauss at De National Opera in Amsterdam together with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the following year also at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In September 2022 she returns to The Royal Opera House as Salome, before she changes to the role as Tosca there in November and December.
At The Metropolitan Opera in New York she has also been Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Marguerite in Gounod's Faust and the title role in Arabella by Richard Strauss. At the San Francisco Opera she sang the challenging title role in Jenůfa in 2016, and the year after she brought this role home to the Royal Swedish Opera (Kungliga Operan) in Stockholm.
In August (2022) she will sing Salome in a concert version with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner at Edinburgh International Festival.
