Louise Engeseth

Norwegian soprano Louise Engeseth is our soloist together with Ludvig Lindström at the one-day festival "Generation" on May 31st during Bergen International Festival

Louise Engeseth (born December 2000) from Volda in Norway finished her Bachelor degree at the Grieg Academy here in Bergen with professor Hilde Haraldsen Sveen spring 2023, and is since autumn 2023 studying for her Master at The Norwegian Academy of Music (Musikkhøgskolen) in Oslo with Ann-Helen Moen.

She is also one of only five selected to the new career development programme Operaakademiet 2023/24 for young singers under 25. This programme is developed in a collaboration between the Queen Sonja Singing Competition (QSSC), The Norwegian Academy of Music and Oslo National Academy of the Arts – The Academy of Opera (Operahøgskolen).

Engeseth has several years experience as a concert singer, and already in 2018 she was soloist in the opera Kimen by the Norwegian composer Magnar Åm, based on the novel Kimen (The Seed) by Tarjei Vesaas. At Bergen International Festival 2023 she participated in the master class with Lise Davidsen, and in summer the same year she sang the role as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) by W. A. Mozart at the opera academy in Saluzzo in Italy. In Januar 2024 she was awarded the Kappelborg Skagen talent prize, when she sang at the New Year's concerts with the Jydske Underholdningsorkester at Kappelborg in Skagen in Denmark.

After the concerts for Bergen International Festival and Bergen National Opera in May and June, Engeseth will be a soloist at Stavanger Music Festival in August, together with the pianist and artistic leader Christian Ihle Hadland in Biblical Songs Op. 99 by Dvořák.

In September she will sing in Mendelssohn's Magnificat in D major, at Sunnmøre Chamber Music Festival (Sunnmøre Kammermusikkfestival), and in October she will be Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro by W. A. Mozart at Opera Nordfjord. In December this year (2024) she is one of the soloists in The Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach both in Volda and in Ålesund
