Linda Watson
Dramatic soprano Linda Watson is highly acclaimed for singing Wagner and Strauss in some of the world’s greatest opera houses.
After her studies in Boston and Vienna the American soprano Linda Watson began her career as a mezzo-soprano in Germany: She started in Aachen and in 1995 she joined the Leipzig Opera, before she sang her first soprano role, Sieglinde (in Die Walküre) in Essen and subsequently joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
Linda Watson has also performed at many of the major opera houses of the world including Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper and at the Metropolitan Opera. She has appeared in great Wagner-roles like Kundry, Isolde, Elisabeth and Brünnhilde – as well as Strauss-roles like Ariadne, Feldmarschallin and Elektra. Her debut as Kundry in Parsifal was at the Festival in Bayreuth in 1998.
Season 2019/20 Watson sang Brünnhilde in the Ring at Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Herodias in Salome and Otrud in Lohengrin at Wiener Staatsoper. In January (2020) she was honored with the title of Kammersängerin.
Update: Linda Watson was to sing Herodias in Salome at Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen) May 2020, but due to Covid-19, both performances were cancelled.
