The Norwegian mezzo soprano Kari Dahl Nielsen is singing The younger woman in the world premiere of Asle and Alida here in Bergen spring 2025
The Norwegian lyric mezzo soprano Kari Dahl Nielsen is permanent member of the soloist ensemble at The Royal Danish Opera (RDO) in Copenhagen. She trained at the Royal Opera Academy with elite pedagogue Susanna Eken, the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, the Grieg Academy in Bergen and Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe. Kari was awarded the Reumert talent prize in 2021.
She performed the roles Tisbe in La Cenerentoll, Mercédès in Carmen – and Dorabella in Così fan tutti the season 2022/23 at RDO.
She made her opera debut as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro with Concerto Copenhagen conducted by Alexis Kossenko at RDO in 2018. At RDO she has performed Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Siébel in Faust, 2. Dame in The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), Emilia in Otello, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Blumenmädchen in Parsifal and Agnes in Intet, amongst other roles. Intet was awarded the Reumert for Opera of the Year in 2021.
In 2023 Nielsen made her house debut at the Norwegian National Opera, featuring Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte with conductor Tobias Ringborg.
In addition, Kari has an extensive interest in the Lied repertoire, with a specialisation in the life and music of Edvard Grieg.
Autumn 2024 she will return in the role as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at DKT in Copenhagen, and spring 2025 she will come to Bergen in the role as The younger woman in the world premiere of Asle and Alida here in Bergen.
