Johan Reuter

He has performed at BBC Proms, in Bayreuth and at the Met. Spring 2020 Johan Reuter visits Bergen, as Jochanaan in Salome.

The Danish bass-baritone Johan Reuter has studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and at the Royal Danish Opera Academy. He has been a member of the ensemble at the Royal Danish Opera since 1996.

Reuter is a regular guest at Royal Opera House i London, Metropolitan Opera i New Zork, Opera de Bastille i Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Salzburger Festspiele. Reuter has also an international career as a concert performer and has appeared in venues like Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, die Philharmonie in Berlin, Royal Albert Hall in London and Musikverein in Vienna. He has also won the Reumert-prize twice as Singer of the year.

Autumn 2018 Reuter sung the title role as Wozzeck at Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and spring 2019 the title role in Adams’s Nixon in China at home at The Royal Opera in Copenhagen. Summer 2019 he was Wotan in Wagner’s Ring cyclus at Budapest Wagner Days, conducted by Adam Fischer. Autumn 2019 he will appear in the title role in the world premiere for Hans Abrahamsen’s first opera Snedronningen (The Snow queen) – based on the fairy tale by H.C. Andersen.

January 2020 Reuter sings Jochanaan in the new Salome-production at Theater an der Wien, and before arriving in Bergen in the same role, he will be the faithful servant Kurwenal in Tristan and Isolde at The Royal Opera in London.
