Jens-Erik Aasbø

Bass Jens-Erik Aasbø visits Bergen as Baltazar in the family opera Amahl and the Night Visitors December 2022.

Bass Jens-Erik Aasbø graduated from the Oslo Opera Academy in 2011, and has been a member of the soloist ensemble at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet since.

​There, he has performed roles such as Sarastro in Mozart's Magic Flute, Basilio in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Rocco in Beethoven's Fidelio) and Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto, among many others.

​Jens-Erik is also a sought-after singer internationally. Recent engagements include Daland in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer at the Opera på Skäret and Spring Festival in Tokyo, Vodník in Dvořák's Rusalka at the Komische Oper Berlin – and Fasolt in Wagner's Das Rheingold and Il Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo.

​As a concert singer, Jens-Erik has performed the bass solo part in Mozart's Requiem many times, but other works are also on his repertoire, such as Dvořáks Stabat Mater, the Requiems of Verdi and M. Haydn, and the part of Jesus in the St. John Passions of both Bach and Arvo Pärt.

​Aasbø made his Bayreuther Festspiele debut this summer (2022) with the roles of Fasolt in Das Rheingold, Reinmar von Zweter in Tannhäuser) and 4. Edler in Lohengrin. He will return in the summer of 2023, reprising the roles of Fasolt and Reinmar von Zweter, but also partaking in a new production of Parsifal, where he will perform the role of 2. Gralsritter.
