Ivar Tindberg
Ivar Tindberg will direct and guide the academists at Opera by the fjord 2024, with highlights from The Magic Flute and Das Rheingold.
Ivar Tindberg is a Norwegian director, writer and composer. He has directed several dramas, and also written for the stage, as well as for radio and television.
In 2000 he was awarded Prix Italia for the best music drama for radio, for the production Bokken Lasson – Sensibel suksess (Bokken Lasson – Stumbling success) for the Norwegian Broadcasting, with music by Gisle Kverndokk.
Tindberg also wrote the libretto and directed Gisle Kverndokk's opera Den fjerde nattevakt (The Fourth Watch of the Night) based on the novel by the Norwegian author Johan Falkberget, which premiered at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet in 2005.
Summer 2022 Ivar Tindberg directed Wagner's Flying Dutchman for Opera Østfold, outdoor at Fredriksten Festning, and in 2025 he will return, then for the L'elisir d'amore by Donizetti.
February this year (2024) he was is the stage director for the comedy Den stundesløse (The Fidget), with music by Edvard Fliflet Bræin, at the festival Operafestukene in Kristiansund. In April he premiered the new musical Spynorsk at Det Norske Teatret (The Norwegian Theatre) in Oslo, with script by Are Kalvø and music by Ingrid Bjørnov.
Tindberg visited our summer academy Opera by the fjord for the first time in 2022, as stage director for Puccini's one-act opera Gianni Schicchi – and in 2023 he returned and staged the highlights from Die Fledermaus and La bohème.
