Daniela Iancu Johannessen
Mezzosoprano Daniela Iancu Johannessen is one of the eight singers in Edvard Grieg Kor, and on 21st of April she is our solist at the last Opera at the library this season, together with the pianist Mai Goto.
Mezzosoprano Daniela Iancu Johannessen graduated in 2008 the Music Academy in Timisoara, Romania, where she studied for 7 years. The study emphasized in particular the interpretation of contemporary music.
In 1999 she performed the role of Azucena in Verdi’s The Troubadour at the Romanian National Opera in Timisoara. After completing studies in 2008, in the same theatre she sang Ulrica in Verdi’s A Masked Ball. In March 2013, she made her soloist debut in Norway performing the roles of Forester’s wife and Owl in opera The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček.
From 1992 to 2010 Iancu sang in many different choirs, also being employed in Timisoara Philharmonic Choir Ion Romanu and Choir Sursum Corda. Both choirs have done extensive touring throughout Europe. Daniela has also been involved in many different oratorio, opera, choral and recital concerts. She has performed as a soloist in several works including Rossini’s Stabat mater, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th symphony, Pergolesi’s Stabat mater, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Verdi’s Requiem.
As a music teacher Daniela has taught music theory at secondary school level, as well as conducting several children’s choirs. She has overseen the release of three albums. In addition to her position in Edvard Grieg Kor, she is also giving singing lessons.
