Christina Jønsi
The Norwegian mezzo soprano Christina Jønsi completed her master in opera at Oslo National Acamdey of the Arts (Kunsthøgskolen) in 2021.
Mezzo soprano Christina Jønsi is from Skien in Norway. She started her song studies at the Grieg Academy here in Bergen in 2014, and completed her master in opera at Oslo National Acamdey of the Arts (Kunsthøgskolen) in 2021 under the direction of professor Solveig Kringlebotn.
In the season 2021/22 Christina Jønsi was a member of the Norwegian National Opera Young Artists’ Programme. Some of her roles were Juno in Orpheus in the Underworld, Mercédès in Carmen, Pastorkyňa in Jenůfa. In 2023 she joined the Norwegian Opera & Ballet in two further productions, as 2. Magd in Elektra and Ursula in the youth opera Ingenting (Nothing).
In February 2024 she made her house debut at the Opera in Kristiansund, in the role as Magdelone, in Den Stundesløse (The Fidget) by Edvard Fliflet Bræin. She has also sung the Second Lady in a shortened version of The Magic Flute at the Kirsten Flagstad festival, and participated in Puccini's La bohème at Opera Østfold. Jønsi has also toured with Stefan Ibsen Zlatanos and Alexander Rybak.
In Oktober 2024 Christina Jønsi was a soloist at Mozart's Requiem with Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, and again in December 2025 at Händel's Messiah. In 2026 she will be back in Kristiansand, this time as Herlofs-Marte in Anne Pedersdotter, by Edvard Fliflet Bræin.
In February 2025 she had her role debut as Hänsel in the opera Hänsel und Gretel (Hans og Grete) by Humperdinck, at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet, in a revived version by stage director Alexander Mørk-Eidem.
In March 2025 Christina Jønsi had her role debut as The Younger Woman at the world premiere of Asle and Alida, a new production by Bergen National Opera with libretto by Jon Fosse and music by Bent Sørensen. The opera then moved on to Copenhagen and the Royal Danish Opera. In March 2026 Jønsi returns to Bergen National Opera in the role of Flora in the new production of La traviata by Verdi, directed by Ole Anders Tandberg.
Christina Jønsi participated at Bergen National Opera's Summer Academy Opera by the Fjord in 2022 as well as in 2024. In 2022 she sung the role as Zeta in the one acter Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, and in 2024 she was Flosshilde, one ofthe three Rhine daughters, in the highlights from Das Rheingold by Wagner.
