Anton Ljungqvist
The Swedish baritone Anton Ljungqvist is Gabriel Malmberg – alias Eisenstein – in our brand new version of Die Fledermaus spring 2024.
The Swedish bariton Anton Ljungqvist graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm in 2011 and has been awarded several scholarships such as the Stockholm Royal Academy of Music scholarship, the Vadstena Academy and the Joel Berglund scholarships.
Spring 2018 he was Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus at Wermland Opera in Karlstad. Other highlights are Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at Folkoperan, Zuniga in Carmen in Malmö and the titlerole in Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) and Figaro in Barber in Seville in Karlstad.
Anton Ljungqvist is also an accomplished concert singer, notably the solo part in the requiems by Mozart, Brahms and Fauré. As a guest at Bergen National Opera, he has sung Dandini in Cinderella and The Father in All about my family – and autumn 2018 he had several roles in Bernstein's Candide: Doctor, 2. Inquisitor, King Stanislaus and Croupier.
He appeared in the role of The Father (Fadern) in the world premiere of the contemporary opera On the Other Side of the Sea (På andra sidan havet) by Catharina Backman (born 1961) at the Malmö Opera.
Autumn 2022 he sang Edgar in the musical production Titanic, and spring 2023 he was Amonasro i Verdi's Aida – both at the Wermland Opera. The previous season included Tonio in Pagliacci by Leocavallo and Betto di Signa in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.
Right before Ljungqvist comes to Bergen, he is performing in the role as Pappan (the Father) in the opera musical Vinteryra (Flurry Tale) at Malmö Opera.
