Easter
Gisle Kverndokk and librettist Aksel-Otto Bull's new opera Easter is a strong and touching family drama based on a play by August Strindberg.
Strindberg ́s Easter creates a delicate dream world of love and compassion. Its three acts take place on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the eve of Easter. Composer Gisle Kverndokk, with librettist Aksel-Otto Bull examine the themes of suffering and transcendence through forgiveness, as Strindberg portrays the traumatic events in the lives of the Heyst family, shamed and tortured by family dis- grace. While the story sets out a bleak sce- nario, the conclusion is one of spiritual uplift and illumination.
