Tijl Faveyts

The Belgian bass Tijl Faveyts sings the role as Arkel in the opera Pelléas and Mélisande here in Bergen autumn 2025.

The Belgian bass Tijl Faveyts first attracted international attention when he sang Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at the Aix-en-Provence Festival at the age of only 26. International guest engagements have recently taken Tijl Faveyts as Gurnemanz in Parsifal to the Theater Minden, as Re in Aidaat the Semperoper Dresden and as Fasolt in Das Rheingold to the Wagner Days in Budapest under the baton of Ádám Fischer.

​Tijl Faveyts was an ensemble member at the Theater St. Gallen and the Aalto-Theater Essen (2013 to 2019), where he was able to develop a broad repertoire. Among them are roles like Daland in Der fliegende Holländer, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Sivigla, Hunding in Die Walküre, Gremin in Eugen Onegin and many others. Since the 2019/2020- season, Faveyts has been a ensemble member of the Komische Oper Berlin.

Guest engagements have taken him to operahouses like Semper Opera Dresden, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Théâtre de la Monnaie Brüssel, the Opéra de Lille, Theater an der Wien, the ABAO Bilbao, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam ,the Teatro Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy, the Lincoln Center in New York and the NCPA Beijing.

Season 2024/25 at Komische Oper in Berlin he sings roles like Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Colline in La bohème, Aye in Akhnaten and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni. This summer (2025) he will be Hans Schwarz in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Bayreuther Festspiele.

After singing Arkel in Pelléas and Mélisande at the National Opera Bergen (Norway), Faveyts will be Balducci in Benvenuto Cellini at the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie Brussels and Hunding in Die Walküre at Oper Köln.
