Patricia Hofstede is an interdisciplinary costumer designer and painter based in Amsterdam. She creates garments and stage costumes with a classic yet modern twist emphasising simplicity, elegance and spirituality.

After years of fashion-industry experience, she opened her studio, Atelier Paradis, which is part boutique part laboratory nestled in Amsterdam. This hybrid home-base serves as a backdrop for her design work and her paintings and has enabled Patricia to open her door to interdisciplinary collaborations in the fields of the arts, music and theatre.

In 2017 she designed costumes for the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir, lead by John Eliot Gardiner, for their landmark project to experience all three surviving operas by Monteverdi: L’incoronazione di Poppea (The Coronation of Poppea), Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland) and L’Orfeo. Spring 2019 she also was costume designer for their tour of Handel’s Semele to Paris, Barcelona, London, Milan and Rome.

Patricia Hofstede was designing for Bergen National Opera for the first time in 2018, for Future Opera at the Borealis Festival. Spring 2020 she is back, now for the new Future Opera at Bergen International Festival.

Update spring 2020: Due to Covid-19 the world premiere for Future Opera at Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen) as well as the performance at Operadagen Rotterdam this year are CANCELLED.
