Mads Wighus
The Norwegian tenor Mads Wighus is singing the role as Blind in Die Fledermaus here in Bergen spring 2024.
Mads Wighus from Norway has studied both at Barratt Due Institute of Music and Oslo Academy of the Arts (Operahøgskolen). After his graduation he was in the Young Artist Program (solistpraktikant) of the National Opera of Norway in 2009. He has performed as a freelance singer at several of the opera stages here in Norway, in baritone parts like Zurga, Dr. Falke, Figaro (Rossini), Escamillo, Marcello and Papageno.Papageno – and more. In the years 2019-2021 Wighus transitioned from baritone into the tenor repertoire.
Autumn 2021 Wighus had his debut as Rodolfo in La bohème at DalaFloda Operafest in Sweden, before he was Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at OperaFest Lisboa.
He is also an active concert singer and does a broad mix of genres, from pop and crossover to church music and lieder recitals – and he has also published own compositions.
Wighus has received several prices and scholarships for his singing, the Talent Price (2009) from the friends of the Norwegian Opera being one of them.
