Lawrence Renes

Lawrence Renes is a Dutch-Maltese conductor, born in 1970. He studied violin at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and conducting at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, graduating cum laude in 1993. Renes gained international recognition in 1995 when he stepped in at short notice for Riccardo Chailly to conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Since then, he has conducted leading orchestras and opera houses around the world, including the Royal Opera House in London, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, where he served as Chief Conductor from 2012 to 2017. Renes has a broad repertoire and is particularly committed to contemporary music. He conducts Written on Skin for the first time at Bergen National Opera
