Elisabeth Teige
“Already the introductory pianissimo tones in the spinning scene tells us about a beautiful timbre and a straight-controlled soprano. The vocally difficult ballad and the big confrontation in the second act she mastered superbly and with glossfull height” - Tidskriften Opera
The Norwegian soprano Elisabeth Teige has established herself as one of the most sought-after young dramatic sopranos in Scandinavia. She is known for her warm, beautiful timbre, intuitive musicality and compelling stage presence.
Elisabeth Teige has interpreted Senta in Wagner's The Flying Dutchman in at least seven different production in Europe, among them Oper Frankfurt and Deutsche Oper Berlin – and in spring 2018 also here at Bergen National Opera.
She made her Leonore debut in Beethoven's Fidelio at Nationaltheater Mannheim in December 2017, a role she also performed at Semperoper Dresden (2018 and 2020) and at the National Theatre in Prague.
In spring 2020 Teige sung the title role in Turandot at Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and the title role as Madama Butterfly at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet in Oslo. During the summer 2020 Teige was to sing Gutrune in Götterdämmerung at the Festival in Bayreuth, but due to the Covid 19-situation this production is now postponed to 2021.
In the autumn 2020 she received Tom Wilhelmsen's Opera Award as well as The Kirsten Flagstad International Anniversary Award. Updated December 2020.
“Elisabeth Teige is fantastic as Senta, she manages to portray both the girlish naivete, the blind certainness and the hopeless confirmation thirst in the demanding role - and she sings absolutely incredible” - Dagens Nyheter
“She has all the gleaming top notes but also the softness that is also part of Senta’s character. Hers is a sensational reading of the role” - Seen and Heard International
