Alexander Chance

Alexander Chance is an English countertenor, born in London in 1992. He studied Classics at New College, Oxford, where he was also a member of the college choir. Chance has established himself particularly in the Baroque and early music repertoire, and regularly collaborates with leading conductors and ensembles including John Eliot Gardiner, René Jacobs, Vox Luminis and the Freiburger Barockorchester. His operatic roles have included Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Apollo in Death in Venice and Tolomeo in Handel’s Giulio Cesare. In 2022, he became the first countertenor to win the International Handel Singing Competition. Alexander Chance makes his first appearance with Bergen National Opera.
