Vera Rostin Wexelsen has worked in Norwegian theater as an actor, theatre director, playwright and theater manager since the early 1980s.

She is particularly engaged in developing and presenting performing arts to a young audience, which she had a good opportunity to do as managing director at Nord-Trøndelag Theater and Hordaland Theater and as a freelance theatre director. In addition, she has experience both as a translator, writer and playwright.

When Wexelsen was employed at Bergen National Opera, she developed, among other things, a concept for introductory performances for teenagers based on known opera works. She has written and instructed three such performances and is now doing a fourth project.

In recent years she has also been an director and mentor for independent theatre groups. In 2019 she directed The Hunchback of Notre-Dame for Fridalen’s girl choir (Fridalen pikekor) and dramatized and directed the musical theater performance Blue Baroque (Blå barokk), based on selected songs and arias from the 18th century, for the Grieg Academy. The performance was shown at Bergen International Festival.

Her next major task is as director of Beethoven's only opera: Fidelio for Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in February 2020.
